Woman Sits On Boyfriend’s Face To Stop Ex-Wife Call

Media General News Service
Published: November 11, 2009

SPRING HILL, Fla.—A woman faces domestic battery charges after reportedly trying to stop her boyfriend from calling his ex-wife by sitting on his face, along with allegedly slapping and scratching him.

According to Hernando County Sheriff reports, Janet Miller, 26, got angry with her live-in boyfriend for calling his ex-wife. Although she claims not to have assaulted him, she said she did “intentionally sit on his face to prevent him from using the phone.“

Upon arrival, deputies report her boyfriend had a slight redness on his cheek and scratches along his back, which he said came from Miller. However, he did not want to go into detail about it or allow the deputy to take photographs because he said he didn’t want to get Miller in trouble. He did say he and Miller got into an argument after he attempted to use the telephone to call his ex-wife.

Miller was taken into custody for domestic battery and transported to the Hernando County Jail under a no bond status.

11-9-2009- Leonard Cohen - Kansas City

  • Nov. 10th, 2009 at 7:45 AM
You see, a Leonard Cohen concert is the holy grail for me.

He is 75 years old. He hasn't released an album with new material in over a decade. It's been even longer since he toured.

Last year (2008) he started a tour. I thought that I missed all my chance to see him due to cost or missed connections. Imagine my surprise and joy when he announced that he would be swinging back through the states for another leg of this tour AND that it would be coming to KC.

I bought the tix 3 months ago and it was a LONG three months of suspense building. There were stories in the new of his collapse on stage due to illness. In spite of having tickets attached via magnet to my fridge... the universe could still conspire to not let me experience this.

But after a very long day at work (and costco shopping) yesterday, it was time.

The concert was at the http://www.midlandkc.com/venueinfo.php and I can say it was the perfect venue. It gave the night a sense of class and of specialness. Our seats were a little distant, but we got a nice overhead view of all the action.

I'm not sure how to describe it all. I know many of my readers don't get my love of Cohen. He's been called "old people's music" to me; I know some of you just nod off when I start talking about him. But let me just say he and his band played for 3 HOURS last night (not including the intermission).

We got 3 hours of all the best songs. I've never seen an artist play that long (the Dixie Chicks FELT that long *snark*). He did little dances all throughout. He got up and down off his knees ALOT. I hope that I'm like that when I'm 75.

Here's the setlist (my comments in parenthesese).

Dance Me to the End of Love (the perfect starting point)
The Future
Ain't No Cure for Love (I finally *got* this song hearing it live)
Bird on the Wire (mmmmm)
Everybody Knows (every bit as wonderful as I thought it would be)
In My Secret Life (ouch you hurt my soul)
Who By Fire (this is one of my favoritest songs. There was a nice guitar build-up to it)
Chelsea Hotel #2 (heh, nice joke ending)
Waiting for the Miracle (I finally *got* this song hearing it live)
Anthem

Intermission (wow! everybody here is so much older than me)

Tower of Song ( :) )
Suzanne
Sisters of Mercy
The Gypsy's Wife (they're a blog post about this some alone.)
The Other Blues Song - Feels So Good (Damn you Mr. Cohen for telling me how I'm to feel)
The Partisan (you have to have the rugged manly song as a counterpoint for all the sensitive male/loverboy stuff)
Boogie Street (oooh pretty)
Hallelujah (*speechless*)
I'm Your Man (Finally, LIVE! )
A Thousand Kisses Deep (This was spoken word. It is probably my second favorite song. As he recited it, the world disappeared. It was 5 minutes of stark loneliness
Take This Waltz (This song brings you up immediately from the low of the previous poem)

Encore 1

So Long, Marianne
First We Take Manhattan (I so don't want to like this song. But he's been winning me over for 5 years now)
Famous Blue Raincoat (oh. I forgot about this song. oh.)

Encore 2

If It Be Your Will (This song is a prayer. His back up singers take this and do something heavenly with it)
Closing Time (huzzah!)

Encore 3 (Holy Fuck! He's coming back out!)

I Tried to Leave You (bwaa ha ha)

For me there is so much emotion tied up in his music. More than I feel I can post about in a public LJ. I can go on a while just about "A Thousand Kisses Deep" and "Hallelujah".

Needless to say, this morning I feel like I have a hangover. I'm drained and I'd do it again tonight if I had the chance.

early autumn in November

  • Nov. 10th, 2009 at 9:18 AM
The weather the last few days has been absolutely gorgeous.  Yesterday peaked to about 67.  I'm thinking it's September not November, but regardless I'll take it!  I was in such good spirits yesterday that I walked back to my car on West Campus (about 1.5 miles) after I took my exam.

It's funny how decent weather lifts my spirits so.  I sat there drinking in the sun and breathing deep and the first thoughts that went through my head were of how fortune I am.  I have friends that accept me for who I am - weaknesses and all.  I have family that I can talk to and travel to see - and I'm not alienated or disowned.  I have prospects for relationships and that alone makes me care more about myself, who I am, and what kind of mettle I'm made from.  I have a roof over my head - without having a job.  I am at a well respected school that I may have had to kick ass to get into but it still amazes me that I am here at all.  The campus is large with excellent facilities, a wonderful bus system, a crapload of green space, the ability to walk anywhere, and good people who believe in what they are doing.  I'm not able to describe how cool it is to see so many people that care about their work, to meet so many who are jazzed about giving a shit - who are there to *teach* and support students.  This campus has around 52K of students on it, and yet I feel more a part of it then I ever did at any of the other schools I've attended.  Even nearly a year later I'm still incredibly happy I made this decision - now matter how much it put me over a barrel.

And so I walked back to my car yesterday afternoon with a lighter step and more appreciation then I've been able to muster in a while.  Someday I will get to a place that offers more sun then Ohio and I hope I will be able to stand away from the dark clouds more.

Antici....pation

In less than 12 hours, I'll be seeing Leonard Cohen, live in concert, right here in Kansas City roughly 15 blocks from my apartment.

I'm actually giddy.

I'm noticing that I haven't been giddy in a very long time.

Label your food please...

  • Nov. 5th, 2009 at 11:55 PM
I posted this request in a forum for an upcoming event and realized that some of my LJ readers may benefit from it too, so I am sharing it here. I am by no means an expert on this but I have been doing my research on this ever since I saw an episode on Ted Allen's Food Detectives (Food Network) when they debunked the myth that alcohol completely burns off during the cooking process.

The why of it all... )

THE REQUEST POSTED TO AN EVENT FORUM FOR THE CSPC:

Is it possible to have labels that identify what dishes (if any) are prepared with alcohol in ANY WAY; that way when the food is served anyone that cannot partake of alcohol will be able to chose what food they decide to enjoy? I had a discussion with a few people at the last Femme Domme Tea about just this kind of thing for future food type events at the CSPC; after taking a single bite of a dessert and realizing that it was prepared with a pretty noticeable amount of alcohol. Thankfully, I was able to catch the handful of people I knew who were at the event who for various reasons (random testing, allergies, and/or medications) cannot eat food prepared with alcohol before they ate the dessert.

Contrary to popular opinion, cooking removes only a portion of the alcohol added to a dish, a much smaller portion than previously thought.

Perhaps most interesting, 75% of the alcohol remains after flambéing. A whopping thirty-five percent (35%) of alcohol remains even after a dish has been simmered 30 minutes on the stove, according to a 2003 USDA study. Alcohol remains in a dish chemically, even when its taste in undetectable – a very important consideration for someone in sobriety or for those cooking for someone in sobriety.

USDA Table of Nutrient Retention Factors, Release 5 (2003)
http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp...

Table from USDA Showing Percent of Alcohol Retained After Cooking Preparation Method Percent of Alcohol Retained
  • alcohol added to boiling liquid & removed from heat 85%
  • alcohol flamed 75%
  • no heat, stored overnight 70%
  • baked, 25 minutes, alcohol not stirred into mixture 45%
  • baked/simmered, alcohol stirred into mixture:
  • 15 minutes 40%
  • 30 minutes 35%
  • 1 hour 25%
  • 1.5 hours 20%
  • 2 hours 10%
  • 2.5 hours 5 %

From the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, April, 2002, by Eleese Cunningham:
"The extent of loss depends on the severity of the heat application, or any other factor favoring evaporation. Cooking time had the greatest impact on alcohol retention. Flaming a dish results in much smaller losses of alcohol than cooking. Uncooked and briefly cooked dishes had the highest alcohol retention. Alcohol retention during cooking was also greatly affected by the size of the cooking vessel used. The smaller the cooking utensil the greater the amount alcohol retained. This was likely due to the smaller surface area for evaporation."
